Dear travelers, we invite you to join us in a fun and revealing UNESCO tour Sibiu – Sighisoara – Viscri! Several settlements in South-East Transylvania are known for their their Saxon and Flemish heritage. Built in the 13-14th century, some of tthem are now part of UNESCO patrimony due to their well preserved architectural beauty. For example, Sighisoara Citadel is a ‘must see’ sight, along with villages like Biertan and Viscri.
The countryside region between the towns of Sibiu, Sighisoara and Brasov is know as the Transylvanian Highlands – the Europe’s last medieval landscape. In consequence, it is such a diversified region with amazing cultural and natural patrimony: old oak tree forests, colorful pastures and meadows, rich fauna, but also fairytale fortified churches and villages.
Most of these places were built hundreds of years ago by the Saxon colonists. Nonetheless, they still preserve their old architectural charm: big houses spread along the main road, large cobbled streets, tall wooden front gates, shady gardens with vineyards and fruit trees. Consequantly, walking through these villages is pure mindful therapy! The whole area is famous for its landscape – no wonder HRH King Charles of England loves it and he comes to visit every year! Moreover, in Viscri, King Charles owns a lovely old Saxon household that can be visited and where guests discover a lot of interesting things about his activity in the region,
It is one of my favorite tours as we spend a lot of time outdoors, we visit idyllic villages, meet local people and enjoy great views. As I grew up among Saxon and Hungarian people, I am fond of multicultural life and sustainable tourism so this tour is a great opportunity to talk more about ethnic tolerance and local civilisation.

How was it possible for a tiny village hidden in the Transylvanian Highlands to win King Charles heart?
To answer this question, we invite you to a lovely walk through the village where we’ll talk about the village and its community, the amazing story of how it became so popular and how a few people totally transformed it.
With a population of about 450 people, it is arguably the most popular village in Transylvania. Not only is it a Unesco World Heritage site but HRH King Charles has owned a traditional farmhouse here since 2006.
The King fell for the area’s historic beauty more than two decades ago. For years he has helped develop schemes to preserve heritage architecture and what his local foundation describes as a “way of life unchanged for hundreds of years”, a place that has preserved its old identity, the simple architecture and a rich flora and fauna.
What we’ll do?
– stroll through the village and its gardens
– visit the fortified church
– visit local artisans and craftsmen
– visit King Charles House
– have lunch with a local family (optional*)
