An idyllic Transylvania, far from the madding crowd…
This tour is perfect if you are curious to discover our culture, history and daily life. As our region is famous for its multicultural values, this tour will combine the stories of three main ethnic groups: Saxons, Romanians and Landlers.
In Cristian we’ll visit a beautiful fortified church (in the Bacon Tower, we’ll taste some delicious home-made products) and we’ll learn more about the “town of storks”.
In Sibiel we’ll visit the Icon Glass Museum and we’ll learn more about this traditional craft.
In Cisnădioara we’ll climb up on a hill to visit the oldest fortress in Transylvania and have a great view of the surroundings.
In Cisnădie we’ll visit a Lutheran Church with the first lightning rod in Transylvania.

Cristian Fortified Church
Cristian is a village-symbol of intercultural relationships as, here, during the centuries used to live not only Saxons but also Landler colonists (coming from Austria) and later on, Romanians. It is a wonderful example of how people with different cultural background and belonging to different ethnic groups and religions managed to live together and influence each other.
In Cristian we’ll have a nice stop within the walls of the church, in its beautiful garden surrounded by flowers and fruit trees and talk about the history of these places, the troubles of the community within the last one hundred years and the traditions and customs the little community are still celebrating. The visit in Cristian will be an interesting life lesson.
Also, from April to August we’ll enjoy the majestic storks (in the area we have the biggest number of nests in Romania) – we can do some bird watching.
Soft trekking with a view
As we’re in the countryside area, very close to the mountains, we suggest to have a short nature escape and climb up the Orlat hill – it isn’t any random hill, this one really has some great stories: in the 18th century there used to be an Austro-Hungarian military regiment here and, during World War I, important battles took place here between the Romanian and the German Army…. But more about these stories up there, on the top of the hill :).
The fortress in Cisnadioara is, probably, one of the oldest in Transylvania going back somewhere in the 12th century. It is located up on the top of a hill, it will take us a bit of effort to get there but you won’t regret: the view over the village and the surrounding area, the local stories and the architecture will definitely impress you. What do you say, shall we dare?:)
We can decide together the departure hours. All these locations are quite close to Sibiu, not long driving distances. We can pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation.
All these villages are close to Sibiu so there isn’t too much driving; we’ll spent more time outdoors, enjoying the countryside area; thus we can feel more of the local spirit and learn about people’s daily life and activities.
Yes, this is a private tour; we try to tailor it according to your request and interests (more culture, more nature). In case there is another request for this tour, we’ll let you know in advance.
Yes, children will definitely enjoy having fun outdoors and see the animals.
