Built in the 12th century by the Saxon and Flemish colonists, Sibiu’s pristine old town has retained its grandeur, hence it’s one of the prettiest towns in Romania. As a former medieval fortification, it has imposing defensive walls, well-preserved towers, narrow streets, gabled 17th century buildings, the infamous Liar’s Bridge, and three beautiful squares.
The town has a certain vibe, something special that will make you easily fall in love with it. Despite its hard, ruthless times, the initial little village became a strong fortification, a big trade center, a flourishing town during the Hapsburg and Austro-Hungarian times and, later on, a symbol of the resistance against the totalitarian system during the Revolution in 1989.
Due to the co-habitation of different ethnic groups (Romanians, Saxons, Hungarians, Greek, Jewish) Sibiu became an emblem of multiculturalism and inter-cultural relationships. Therefore, in 2007, it became a European Capital of Culture and in 2019 it was awarded the title of European Region of Gastronomy. Furthermore, my town was honored to host in May 2019 the Informal European Union Summit. Important to point out, Sibiu is also a 3* Michelin tourist destination.
With this in mind, Sibiu remains a vibrant, romantic and bohemian town full of personality. Thus, it will be my great pleasure to be your guide! To conclude, we have so many things to talk about and many great places to explore! Looking forward to meeting you Sibiu!

Main Square (Piata Mare), by the Tourist Info Centre or wherever it is easy for you.
At request, flexible times.
During our walk through the squares, narrow passageways, little tunnels and cobbled streets, we’ll approach various topics also adapted to your interest. Undoubtedly, it will be an interesting and, why not, fun Sibiu walkabout!
Here are some of the places we’ll explore:
We’ll talk about the early beginning of the former medieval fortification and its quick evolution while we admire several beautiful buildings: the Luxembourg House, the Council Tower and the Butchers’ Hall. Most important, we’ll step on the Liar’s Bridge to admire the view towards the Lower Town while listening to the old bridge legends.
One of my favorite places in Sibiu. Evidently, we’ll learn about the Journeymen and the former freemasons (maybe a bit about the operative and the speculative masonry). Through the Stairs Passageway, we’ll admire another view towards the Lower Town.
We’ll admire the majestic Evangelical Church and the Brukenthal College – a wonderful place in Sibiu. Generally, on Fridays, we can attend the organ concert in the church and have a visit the the local food market organized here.
The core of Sibiu, the big, majestic square. We’ll discover the Town Hall, the Brukenthal Art Palace, the Catholic Church and the former cereal warehouses. Overall, there are so many great things to talk about here!
A lovely little square with a great architectural diversity, a sort of hidden corner in the old town.
Undeniably, the most beautiful street in Sibiu, it is said…
You’ll probably agree as we’ll walk by the Thalia Hall (Orchestra Hall), the former walls of fortification, the former defensive towers and the initial moat, today a refreshing park
From the Fortress Street we’ll walk along the park and the Walk of Fame, we’ll get on the main pedestrian street by the famous Romans’ Emperor hotel and go to the Orthodox Cathedral – an imposing architectural emblem from Sibiu.
Finally, we’ll end our itinerary back in the Big Square.
