Sibiu Fusion Tour and Taste
A mosaic of culture and gastronomy
Did you know that Sibiu is a 3* Michelin travel destination? Did you know that it was a European Capital of Culture in 2007 and European Region of Gastronomy in 2019? We invite you to join us and discover an amazing town with so many stories!
During its 800 years, Sibiu became a “Transylvanian Mecca” for all the ethnic groups and colonists coming here. They brought with them their traditions and customs and shared them with the inhabitants. Three main ethnic groups (Romanians, Saxons and Hungarians) co-existed in these parts; to them, we may add Greeks, Jewish people, Turks, Armenians and different nomad groups. They all had a great influence on our culture and civilisation.
Sibiu became a place of multiculturalism and ethnic plurality. Gastronomy was, without any doubt, one of the domains that inherited a bit from each of the ethnic groups – a great fusion of tastes.
We invite you to a “delicious tour” – we’ll explore the historical area of the town – with all the famous monuments – and we’ll have some “food stops” to try some special local dishes, learn their story and enjoy a pleasant atmosphere.
This tour is part of the program Sibiu European Region of Gastronomy 2019!
The tour includes:
- Walking tour in the old town of Sibiu with a focus on the multicultural, intercultural and gastronomic influences and trends;
- A visit at the local food market;
- Food stops at two different local restaurants (appetisers, main dish, local wine/ craft beer, dessert)
The tour doesn’t include:
- Everything else not mentioned on the menu; if you have food restrictions or have a preference for a particular type of menu/ beverages, please let us know in advance.
Sibiu Walking Tour
During our walking tour in the old town of Sibiu we’ll talk about the influences the different ethnic groups had on the local gastronomy. We’ll debate also about the different factors that influenced farming and animal breeding in time and also the variety of the local landscape and good climate.
In 2019 Sibiu was European Region of Gastronomy with a lot of food festivals and workshops… We’ll learn more about the Eat Local/ Farm-to-Table concepts and how the new innovations in food industry have influenced our region.
Sibiu Food Market
The food market in Sibiu is the perfect place to meet local farmers selling fruit, fresh vegetables, various types of meat and cheese. Actually, the county of Sibiu is famous in Romania for its dairies – all over our region you can see flocks of sheep grazing.
If you come on a Friday morning you can visit the Green Friday Market, organized in front of the Evangelical Church. Local producers and farmers from the area come to sell cheese, honey, fresh home-bread and pies, vegetables and fruit.
After walking and talking about food it’s time to have a stop and try the local cuisine. We usually choose the most interesting places, which respect several criteria: a seasonal menu based on local fresh products, healthy balanced dishes, innovative and creative recipes, local wine and craft beer, good service and … a pleasant ambience.
Also, as it is a customized tour we can adapt to your food restrictions but we have to know in advance.
We can set together the meeting place, the order of the sights in the tour and the meeting hour. We tailor the tour also according to each season and weather conditions.
The tour usually lasts about 4-5 hours and we suggest to start around noon time.
There is no problem. Please let us know in advance what kind of restrictions and we can change / adapt the menu for you.
